Nozomi Energy Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony for 196 MWh Battery Storage Project in Oita Prefecture

目次

On October 19, 2026, Nozomi Energy held a traditional Japanese groundbreaking ceremony (Jichinsai) for its 50 MW / 196 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Usuki City, Oita Prefecture, marking an important step towards the start of construction.

The ceremony brought together Nozomi Energy, project stakeholders, and members of the local community to pray for the safety and successful completion of the construction works.

The ceremony included traditional Shinto rituals to purify the site and seek blessings for a safe construction process, reflecting the importance of respecting local traditions and maintaining strong relationships with the surrounding community.

The project, which secured a successful bid in Japan’s first Long-Term Decarbonization Power Source Auction, achieved financial close in September 2026 and is targeting commercial operation in September 2028.

As construction moves forward, Nozomi Energy remains committed to working closely with its partners and local stakeholders to deliver the project safely and contribute to Japan’s energy transition.
